…Like Bacon and Eggs

Hey guys! Long time no post! I know, I am so sorry. Its been a WILD few weeks and I will have to post again soon to fill you all in on the insanity. But, in the mean time I have had the chance to do a fair amount of knitting, and a little musing too.

So on the menu for today we have some things that I think pair absolutely deliciously with an afternoon of knitting…

1. AUDIOBOOKS — I finally broke down and got an audible membership. Its been a total game changer guys, I can now do my two favorite things at once “read” and knit! Right now I am listening to “Fates and Furies” per the recommendation of a friend and it is absolutely luscious. I am loving it, it goes together beautifully with the linen summer tank I am knitting 🙂

2.Tea — I really REALLY like to drink tea while I knit. Its a ritual thing for me. I heat up water in my little red kettle, make the tea in my brown betty teapot, and keep mental note of how many cups I have had as the afternoon goes on and I knit away. I’ve grown to love green tea over the years, and it feels good to drink something that is good for me too, but on cheat days I will make a cup of Lady Grey…its ma fave forever. 🙂 If the snake fates have treated me right there will also be a tube of hobnobs hiding somewhere in my cupboards. Hobnobs + tea + knitting = complete bliss

3. Movies/TV — this one is a bit of a duh…is there a knitter out there who doesn’t love to binge watch tv while he/she knits? I mean, I know should feel badly about it…but I have come to relish my ability to get all the way through a netflix original series in a day while I churn out a couple of sweater sleeves or a pair of socks. Speaking of socks, of you’re a knitter and you haven’t read about the “netflix socks” go check them out now HERE…trust me…

For me, I like to cycle through the same core list of flix over and over, like listening to a great record, its background that makes me feel all contented and cozy as I knit away. Here is my shamelessly geeky list…

Gilmore Girls

Friends

All the Harry Potters

Downton Abbey

The Lord of the Rings

Parks and Rec

the Office

Star Wars (a new addition thanks to the latest film’s rekindling of my childhood love)

there are others…but these are my cherished favorites that play over and over…Its bad guys…I know. I am really hoping that there are others of you out there who share a similarly dorky taste in cinema…please say yes?

Sun Bathing — I am going to go against the trend her and admit that I love to sun myself. I am a naturally cold blooded Oregonian, who doesn’t really get to see the sun that often in the first place, and when it does come out I LOVE to be in it and to feel the deep warming in my bones that only summer sunshine can provide. I love to spread out a blanket (usually with aforementioned headphones and audiobook), to put on my giant floppy sun hat and to soak up some rays while I knit. Of course I also use a lot of sunscreen and I am careful with how much I take in…but honestly, is there anything better than knitting in the sunshine? Tucker and Gus usually come out and lounge with me, it reminds me of my childhood and reading books under our big mimosa tree all summer long.

Podcasts — So many great knitting podcasts, so little time. And knitting while you listen to someone else talk about how much they love knitting is almost too much. Its great. Right now I am really into the stash podcast, woolful, pompom quarterly’s “pomcast” and of course Serial…cause who isn’t listening to that. I also really like KnitFM by Hannah Fettig and Pam Allen…please bring it back someday ladies!

I am sure there are other knitting/ pairings that I like, but that pretty much covers my favorites. What do you like to do while you knit??
